Assessment of Household Practices of Solid Waste Management in Jammu City, India

The problem of Solid Waste Management (SWM) has gained recent attention in developing countries. city Jammu being a major Union Territory (UT) J&K, prominent tourist and pilgrim site is facing massive upheaval the waste generation rates. sharp contrast between increasing rates on one hand inadequacy funds other hand. observed to generate 350-400 Tons per Day (TPD) with capita 550 grams day. survey shows that residents do not segregate at source, possess inadequate storage facilities often dump openly without any treatment. They tend have little knowledge about efficient practices management, adverse consequences environment public health prevailing laws state. Thus, sound planning management study attempts address challenges linked current household practices. further recommends resorting practice 3 Rs-Reduce, reuse recycle, involving households segregation making aware existing by-laws encouraging their participation These will act as driver for behavior change individuals towards managing waste.
